mixed bees

Its an idle question but.... I have noticed that my bees are very varied in appearance some quite tawny some very dark - whats going on here?  Is this a sign that my bees are genetically diverse?

I would also refer you to the article else where on this site regarding the "Black Bee" apparently written by Roy Norris ,although I am absolutely certain that it was in fact written by Tony Shaw ?  (Chris can you also amend that ?)

It explains the situation re mixed genes of bees in more detail than I have and puts it in context ,

perhaps you might become interested in trying to promote the Black Welsh/British Apis Melifera Melifera (AMM) ?
